Vintage Vincent Simone Brooch Pendant Sterling Silver Bakelite Cicada Bug Figural 2.5”

Absolutely fabulous vintage Vincent Simone figural cicada bug brooch, combining sculptural sterling silver with a beautifully carved black Bakelite body. The insect is wonderfully dimensional, with long silver wire legs and antennae, vivid blue cabochon eyes and warm gold-tone bead detailing running along the head.

The black body is especially striking, deeply carved with sweeping linear and dotted decoration that gives the cicada an almost tribal or Modernist quality. The dimensional construction makes this a miniature piece of wearable sculpture.

The reverse is signed with the Vincent Simone “VS” maker’s mark and STERLING. Simone was a New York jeweler particularly known for imaginative figural sterling jewelry. History behind the maker: 

Vincent Simone (1932–2023) was a New York City–based artisan jeweler celebrated for his distinctive handcrafted sterling silver designs. His highly detailed, sculptural pieces often featured whimsical animals and insects, making his work instantly recognizable. Simone worked largely by hand throughout his career, incorporating unusual materials such as carved Bakelite and reverse-carved crystal into his creations. His imaginative figural jewelry remains highly collectible today.

Condition
