A striking vintage English sterling silver Morpho butterfly wing brooch, featuring brilliant flashes of electric blue, turquoise and violet beneath a clear domed cover.
Morpho butterfly wing jewelry became especially fashionable during the early-to-mid 20th century. The extraordinary blue is created by microscopic structures in the butterfly wing that reflect light, giving the jewelry its characteristic shifting, almost metallic iridescence.
This example has a wonderfully simple elongated oval form that allows the natural pattern and luminous color of the Morpho wing to take center stage. The silver setting has a delicate textured border.

Good vintage condition with age-related wear. The clear cover shows surface scratches and wear consistent with age, and the butterfly wing itself displays natural variations. The sterling silver has patina and surface wear. Please review photographs carefully.
