Striking vintage Mexican sterling silver clip-on earrings with a bold Modernist geometric design. Each earring features a large polished round black stone, likely onyx, bezel set against an angular triangular sterling silver form.
The asymmetrical composition and substantial scale give these a wonderful Mexican Modernist / Taxco-style look. They weigh approximately 24.4 grams together, so they have a pleasing substantial feel.
They are clearly hallmarked 925, MEXICO and TP-98. The T in the Mexican letter-number registration system indicates Taxco, while the remaining letter and number relate to the registered silversmith/workshop. This system replaced Mexico’s earlier eagle-mark system around 1979/1980, so these are appropriately described as vintage, circa 1980s or later. I have not found a reliable attribution for TP-98 and would therefore leave the maker unidentified.
