A beautiful antique Victorian hand-carved shell cameo, offered loose and ready to be set into a brooch, pendant or other custom piece of jewelry.
The cameo depicts an elegant classical woman in profile, beautifully rendered with an elaborate arrangement of flowing curls, and leaves in her hair. She wears a delicate beaded necklace and classically draped clothing. The raised white carving contrasts beautifully against the warm peach and honey tones of the natural shell.
The carving is particularly lovely through the hair, headdress and drapery, where the carver created wonderful depth and movement. When held to the light, the natural translucency of the shell becomes especially apparent.
No definitive identifying attribute is present that would allow us to confidently name the woman as a particular mythological figure, so she is conservatively described as a classical woman.
