VINTAGE Japanese Damascene Necklace Bracelet Earrings Set 1960s
A beautifully coordinated vintage Japanese damascene jewelry set consisting of a necklace, bracelet, and matching screw-back earrings. Each panel features delicate cherry blossom-style floral sprays with gold leaves and silver blossoms, handcrafted with 24k gold and silver inlay against a rich oxidized metal background. The bracelet is especially versatile and may be worn on either side, revealing beautifully engraved decorative backs.
Japanese damascene, known as zōgan, is a centuries-old metalworking technique that originated with the decoration of samurai swords. Master artisans carefully chiseled microscopic grooves into iron or steel before hammering fine threads of pure gold and silver into the surface by hand. Following the Meiji Restoration, when swords were no longer widely carried, these highly skilled craftsmen turned their talents toward creating elegant jewelry and decorative objects. The result is a wearable work of art, with each panel individually hand inlaid using techniques passed down through generations.
The floral motif reflects Japan’s enduring appreciation for nature and the fleeting beauty of blossoms, making these pieces timeless examples of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Condition
