Vintage Italian pottery apothecary jar dating to 1974 without lid!
This substantial vessel is hand painted in a Medieval/Renaissance-style faience design with blue, ochre, green and brown foliate decoration. The front bears the Latin botanical name “Aconitum,” historically associated with the medicinal plant commonly known as aconite or monkshood.
The underside is hand marked “Italy 74.” Its wide opening and classic pedestal form give it the appearance of an old-world pharmacy jar.
Measurements:
Approximately 7” high
Approximately 5.5” diameter
Approximately 3.25” opening diameter
Condition:
Very good vintage condition with light surface and base wear consistent with age. Natural variations in the hand-painted decoration and pottery glaze are present. There is NO lid for this jar.
Please review all photographs carefully.
