A spectacular antique silverplate wine cooler / champagne bucket in a substantial footed urn form, richly decorated with Neoclassical and Aesthetic Movement details.
The upper border is particularly beautiful, with an intricate repeating geometric design incorporating stylized floral and foliate motifs. Two elaborate swinging drop handles are mounted on decorative rosette backplates and finished with turned finials and pendant details. The deep rounded body rests on a broad raised pedestal foot, giving the cooler an impressive architectural presence.
This is a wonderful piece of antique silver barware and entertaining ware—substantial enough to command attention on a dining table, sideboard or home bar while retaining the elegant proportions associated with late Victorian silverplate.
Measurements
Circa 13.25” handle to handle
Circa 9” diameter excluding handles
Circa 7.25” high
Circa 8.5” high at handles
Condition
Antique pre-owned condition with expected signs of age and use. There are surface scratches, scuffs, tarnish, small dents, discoloration, interior wear and areas of wear to the silverplate consistent with an antique serving piece. The interior shows particularly visible signs of previous use. The aged surface and patina have been retained rather than aggressively polished.
Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
Styling
An extraordinary addition to an Old Money bar, traditional dining room or collected English-style interior. Use it as a wine or champagne cooler, fill it with ice for entertaining, or style it as a dramatic centerpiece filled with flowers or greenery.
Its combination of antique silverplate, Neoclassical ornament, pedestal form and elaborate drop handles also makes it an excellent decorative piece for collectors of Victorian silver, antique barware and historic tableware.
