Description
A beautiful antique Victorian pickle castor by Forbes Silver Co., complete with its original clear etched glass jar, matching silverplated lid, and serving tongs. The ornate quadruple-plated stand features elaborate repoussé scrollwork, decorative pierced side panels, a turned bail handle, and four richly detailed feet. The underside bears the Forbes Silver Co. eagle trademark with QUADRUPLE and pattern number 462. Forbes Silver Company was established in 1894 and later became part of International Silver, placing this piece around the turn of the 20th century.
Originally displayed on the Victorian dining table, pickle castors were used to elegantly serve pickles, olives, gherkins, or other relishes while allowing the glass insert to be lifted from its decorative frame.
Condition
In good antique condition with age-appropriate wear to the silverplate. The etched glass jar is included and displays beautifully. Matching lid and tongs are present. Please review all photographs as they form part of the description.
Styling Ideas
A wonderful addition to a Victorian dining room, silver collection, or country estate décor. It also makes a beautiful display piece in a kitchen hutch, butler’s pantry, or holiday tablescape.
All other items shown are staging props and are NOT included.
