A wonderful and increasingly difficult-to-find antique Old Sheffield Plate food warmer, dating approximately to the late Georgian to early Victorian period. This substantial serving piece is constructed in traditional silver on copper, with a rectangular form, rounded corners, ball feet, and handsome side handles with turned accents.
The warmer retains its original internal components, including the removable warming element and insert. The removable upper serving tray sits over the warming chamber, creating an ingenious early table-serving system designed to help keep food warm during a meal.
The exposed copper, age-related patina, and wear to the silver surface give this piece exactly the character collectors look for in genuine Old Sheffield Plate.
Measurements
• Approximately 12.25” handle to handle
• Approximately 8” wide
• Approximately 2.75” high
Condition
Antique condition with expected surface scratches, patina, tarnish, rubbing and areas of silver loss consistent with considerable age and use. Copper is visible in areas, particularly on the interior components.
The feet show age-related cracking/seam lines typical of early Old Sheffield construction, clearly shown in the photographs. All original components appear to be present. Please review all photographs closely as they form an important part of the condition description.
Styling
An exceptional piece of Georgian and early Victorian dining history and the epitome of Old Money tableware. Display it on a sideboard or dining table, incorporate it into an antique silver collection, or use it as a striking centerpiece for traditional entertaining.
