A beautiful pair of French opera glasses by Lemaire of Paris dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. These antique theater binoculars are crafted in iridescent mother of pearl with brass fittings. The eyepieces are engraved “LEMAIRE FT PARIS” and bear the company’s bee hallmark, a sign of authentic Lemaire quality.
The glasses measure approximately 4 inches wide by 2.5 inches high by 1.5 inches deep and come with their original leather case measuring 4.75 inches wide by 2 inches high by 3 inches deep.
The interior is lined in vivid pink silk and adds a wonderful decorative element.
Condition: The mother of pearl is intact and shimmers beautifully. The brass shows normal patina from age. The optics show some dust inside. The case shows surface wear but closes securely and is structurally sound.
A fine antique French opera collectible perfect for display or use, with the elegance of its original case.
Age: circa 1880–1900, right in the Belle Époque era when opera glasses were essential accessories for theater and society events.
