Iconic vintage 1920s Whiting & Davis Art Deco mesh purse in the highly sought after spiderweb pattern. The metal mesh is enamel painted in silver, gold and charcoal, forming a dramatic spiderweb design that shimmers beautifully in the light. Classic flapper era evening bag style with geometric frame and original chain handle for that true Art Deco look.
Interior reveals a gorgeous second layer of electric blue mesh, a rare feature that collectors love on early Whiting & Davis mesh bags. Frame is signed Whiting & Davis. The purse body measures approximately 5.5” wide by 6.5” long. Chain opening when held taut is about 5.75”, a comfortable hand or wrist carry length for an evening bag.
Overall condition is very good vintage for a century-old mesh purse with age-appropriate patina and light enamel wear visible under close inspection. Some of the inner blue mesh near the hinges has bern re-tied. The mesh hangs nicely, the spiderweb pattern reads clearly and the clasp closes securely. Both hinges are in excellent condition, we had one side professionally restored and the kiss lock adjusted for a lovely close‼️
