A beautiful Whiting & Davis Art Deco mesh purse, crafted in the 1920s and featuring a delicate silver-tone metal mesh body with subtle hand-enameled detailing in tones of amber, blue, coral, and soft yellow — the hallmark hues of the flapper era.
The purse has a silver-plated frame with a black enamel border, a kiss-lock clasp, and an original twisted-link chain handle. The interior retains its blush-pink silk lining, typical of the early Whiting & Davis purses, and the frame bears the “Whiting & Davis Co.” mark.
Measurements:
5.5” H × 3.25” W (excluding chain)
Condition:
Shows expected age patina and enamel fading to the mesh; minor separation at a few rings along the lower edge and some oxidation to hardware. The silk lining is worn but original. Structurally intact and displays beautifully with that timeless Art Deco charm.
Collectors’ Note:
Whiting & Davis revolutionized handbag design with their machine-linked metal mesh, producing iconic purses that became the ultimate symbol of 1920s sophistication. Their enameled designs are now highly collectible and remain favorites among vintage fashion enthusiasts.
