In a time when shaving with a straight razor was risky, many men visited a barber shop for a safer shave. It was common for these gentlemen to have their own personalized shaving mug, kept at the shop for their convenience.
Creating the Lather:
Victorian shaving mugs, especially scuttles, were double-walled, allowing the user to pour hot water into the outer chamber to heat both the mug and the soap puck. The soap puck was placed in the upper part of the mug, and the user would then dip a shaving brush into the heated soap to create a lather
