An oval-shaped antique brooch featuring a miniature portrait of Queen Louise of Prussia on porcelain.
It appears to be from the Edwardian era and depicts themes of beauty, art, and fashion.
Who was Queen Louise:
Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie; March 10, 1776 – July 19, 1810) was the wife of King Frederick William III of Prussia. Their marriage, though brief, was happy and produced nine children, including the future monarchs Frederick William IV of Prussia and William I, German Emperor.
Her legacy was solidified after her extraordinary 1807 meeting with French Emperor Napoleon I at Tilsit. She met with him to request favorable terms after Prussia’s disastrous losses in the War of the Fourth Coalition. Her popularity with her subjects was already high, but her meeting with Napoleon elevated her to the status of “the soul of national virtue.” Her early death at the age of thirty-four preserved her youth in the memory of posterity, and Napoleon reportedly remarked that the king had “lost his best minister.”
