800 German POSEN Silver sauce/gravy boat with removable under tray, can be removed for cleaning.
The gravy boat has pouring area at each end and has a handle on each side at the middle in the design of a laurel wreath. The gravy tray has a beautiful engraved border around the edge of the scalloped shaped design of the tray. The gravy boat replicates this design around the bottom of the foot.
The laurel wreath handles are an exquisite design that makes this stunning antique gravy boat stand out. This amazing piece is just under 20 Troy ounces weighing about 620g this is certainly a substantial piece with history.
History about the Company
<head><meta charset="UTF-8" /></head>“Lazarus Posen Witwe (Lazarus Posen’s widow) was unique among 19th- and 20th-century German silver manufactories in that its owner and principal director was a Jewish woman. The firm was founded in Frankfurt on the Main in 1869 by Brendina Wetzlar, the widow of Lazarus Jacob Posen, a silversmith and retailer of Polish descent. Under the widow Posen’s stewardship, the firm became the largest supplier of Judaica in the late 19th century. Her son Jacob L. Posen joined the firm by 1880, and by 1900, the company’s large staff of chasers and engravers were producing some of the finest silver in the country. They received a royal warrant in 1903 and opened a second shop in Berlin. The firm followed all the latest continental trends incorporating both Danish and Austrian styles into their output. In the 20th century the firm was under the direction of Brendina’s grandsons Jakob, Hermann and Moritz Posen.

In beautiful antique age typical condition with mild signs of age appropriate use. Shows some mild age typical wear. Would benefit from some more polishing underneath.
