Antique 24-Piece Dessert Service in Original Case with Key– Mother of Pearl & Sterling Silver Ferrules, SHEFFIELD 1902 JOHN BIGGIN UK
A rare and complete Edwardian dessert service, crafted with elegance and refinement. The set includes 12 knives (7”) and 12 forks (6”), each with lustrous mother of pearl handles and sterling silver ferrules hallmarked Sheffield, 1902–03 by silversmith John Biggin. The ferrules are decorated with ornate scrolling detail, a fine example of late Victorian style continuing into the Edwardian period.
The service is beautifully preserved in its original oak fitted case (9.25” x 11.5” x 2”) with a brass cartouche on the lid and working original key — a rare survival.
Provenance: Accompanied by its original antique shop tag (catalogued circa 1880) and a 1976 Neiman-Marcus receipt, where it was sold as a fine “Mother of Pearl Dessert Set.” The hallmarks confirm Sheffield 1902, lending both charm and accuracy to its documented history.

Mother of pearl handles: excellent iridescence, secure and intact.
Sterling ferrules: hallmarked and showing gentle age patina.
Blades & tines: steel, with expected light surface wear from age.
Case: very good condition with original key in working order.
